Guides on emulating older applications

RetroArch is a free, Open Source and cross-platform front-end for emulators, game engines, video games, media players and other applications. It is the reference implementation of the Libretro API. Designed to be fast, lightweight, portable and without dependencies. It is licensed under the GNU GPLv3.

Unfortunately for some time, RetroArch to PPC does not work if downloaded from the official page. Here is a build of 1.7.5 that I set up, ready to use, with all cores and assets.

Just extract the file, and start playing your ROMs! ON POWERPC!!!

Update 17.11.2020:

Added a link to an archive containing various custom RetroArch builds for PPC and Intel Macs running OS X 10.5 and later - cores included. (compiled by thedoctor45).

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC x86 (Intel:Mac)

I've also uploaded a standard dmg for others to get the app without needing to install any extra app.

@reukiodo: Thanks for that. Re .dmg files, I hardly see a need for .sitx files, especially when the file size saving is marginal, and when .dmg is easier to use after downloading from online networks. It's a safe format for storing online without need for additional archiving.

A ha! That was the missing component! Thanks MikeTomTom! After installing that specific version, there was no longer any errors extracting the app. I've also uploaded a standard dmg for others to get the app without needing to install any extra app.

@reukiodo: This .sitx file also extracts correctly for me, using StuffIt Expander v8 (Standard Edition) on my Mac Mini G4, running Mac OS X 10.4.11

Maybe you could check against the MD5 hash to see if what you downloaded matches the hash on this page. If they don't match, re-download and try again. Otherwise there is some other issue at your end.

I was also able to extract the file using StuffIt Expander 7.0.3 on a PPC running Tiger. So I do not understand why you cannot unpack the file yourself. Please try some more yourself as I do not think it should be necessary to upload another file for this. If StuffIt Expander 7.0.3 does not work for you then I suggest you download the archive again in case your first attempt was incomplete.

Then could you please put it into a dmg and upload it? I can't extract it and run it.

Well, I just succeeded in extracting it using StuffIt Expander 15.0.7. So the archive is OK for me.

The archive seems corrupt... maybe incomplete upload?
