This is a ShrinkWrap 2.1 image of RAM Doubler 2.0 and the 2.0.2 updater. I thought this version deserved a page for itself, as it has certain advantages over the previous versions.

The manual above, was sourced from vintagemacworld.com.

2nd DL is a patched version (Disk Copy 6 image ".img") to avoid floppies...
3rd DL is a French version (ShrinkWrap 2.1 image) with 2.0.1 updater and another utility (Pump 1.6.1)
4th DL is the same as 3rd, but patched...

Glad to see that you've found the solution for the version 8 too. Smile
RAM Doubler 2 was the rare software I have bought from this distant era with WordPerfect 3.0 fr & TeamAgenda for my LC475.

I will upload theses StuffIt additions probably next week... Be a little bit patient. Wink

Great, it works for the French version, too. Thanks for these, MacTouch.

I used the patch-builder ResCompare to (quickly) find the difference. Another very useful tool, for when researching the innards of classic Mac software.

- Your original patched upload also gave the clue as to where to locate the code to patch version 8. Smile
In a different location but much the same thing: CODE ID 2, offset 001770, Hex 6656 changed to 0056

I also am looking forward to the "new" StuffIt additions Smile

Very coool and amazing, Mike. Thxs for this precious information. So, I have uploaded the French version with updater. And as it has the same Code, I've modified it with ResEdit & "Bingo", it works perfectly. Smile It reminds me the "so far" era where I used ResEdit for some testing... So, thxs again for that. Wink

I believe I'm gonna create individual pages for StuffIt. As the version 8 is only working with Mac OS X, it deserves its own page obviously. Other versions are also major, especially the version 2. So... Smile

May be now, you can compare the code from the original one to see what's modified.

Yes, it's CODE resource ID 2, at (using ResEdit) line offset 001758, Hex 663C, is changed to 003C

Please add the French R Doubleur 2 to the page, MacTouch, merci beaucoup.

I'll leave it up to your good sense as to where to place the additional StuffIt's, should you add these to the archives. Tho' I would like to see Deluxe 8 on a page separate from the classic versions. Thanks again.

YW Wink

I'm happy for that. I have removed some unfriendly images on it... Smile May be now, you can compare the code from the original one to see what's modified. Smile I have also a French version named "RAM Doubleur 2" (not patched Smile of course...). If needed, I can upload it here if you want. May be we could patch this version later...

I have some versions of StuffIt (milestones) that I can upload too (let me know if I need to create pages for them or use an existing one):

StuffIt Deluxe 2.01 (I believe this is the first version or one of released by Aladdin Systems)
StuffIt Lite 3.0.7
StuffIt Deluxe 8

I have created a page for the version 1 as you may have seen. The version uploaded there is 1.1 (I don't know if we'll find the very first version, but I really hope so). If you want to modify the page at your convenience... Cheers. Wink

Hello MacTouch. Thanks for this. It had alluded me entirely.

Hi Mike,

I've added in the page a patched version found on the web archives. Smile

Good, glad you were able to use the floppy drive and install RD 2x.

I tried the patch method mentioned on the "Connectix RAM Doubler 1.5.2 & 1.6.x" page, but it doesn't appear to work with vers.2 and I don't know of another workaround as yet.

I was wrong, it seemed to have worked just fine. Wrote the disk image to an 800K floppy, installed from it, rebooted and presto!

Bummer, I'm pretty sure the floppy drive on this Mac isn't working right...

No joy. Anyone have a way around this?

I do not know if a workaround is possible.

The Connectix RAM Doubler series, all require installing from actual hardware floppy drives.

I could be wrong and someone may know of a solution, but as far as I'm aware...

When launching the installer, I get the message "Please install RAM Doubler from its master disk." The install button is greyed out. Tried mounting the image with both ShrinkWrap and Disk Copy 6. No joy. Anyone have a way around this?

Why would you want to use it in SheepShaver when you can have all the RAM you need?
This was meant for the days when 32MB of RAM cost $500.

I've tried it in SheepShaver, but it seems to attempt to use a PowerPC opcode, which as bytes in hexadecimal, is "7C 00 04 A6", and SheepShaver doesn't know what instruction that PowerPC opcode means, so RAM Doubler crashes SheepShaver. Could it be an MMU instruction? Does RAM Doubler probably require an MMU (which SheepShaver does not emulate yet), just like some of the other Connectix Macintosh software?

The download link (the top one) works now. Dunno why.

I know, why. This is the normal way a d/l gets available in time, for some technical reasons.

The download link (the top one) works now. Dunno why. Hope it lasts Smile

Regards from MacBeth

PS : I didn't do the disk scan myself (it's nice yes), I just ripped it from the Ram Doubler 1.6.1 page Smile

Oops that'll be my fault. I never thought to do a "get info" on the image. The icon looked a lot like DC4.2. I used DC6.3 to mount it too.

This is a DiskCopy 4.2 image of RAM Doubler 2.0...

However, this does appear to be a ShrinkWrap 2.1 image file, not a Disk Copy 4.2 image - Its no biggie, just letting others who DL this know (perhaps they don't have ShrinkWrap installed). Disk Copy 6.3 can mount this file OK.

@MacBeth noted:

Alternative link to download the file...

The "other alternative link" is also working here (at the time of writing this post) Wink

Thanks for posting, MacBeth - and for the excellent disk scan.
