Popup Folder is an amazing extension to the finder under system 7.x

It gives you the ability to browse your folders and files in a couple of clicks through hierarchical menus.

It also enhances the "Open and Save" dialog box by making it bigger and adding easy to browse favorites (also present in the menu bar).

With Popup Folder you can easily move, copy, alias or duplicate elements from a volume to another.

This application can also replace extensions like "Sticky Click" if you set the option "Click-Drop" to the menu bar.

Back in my System 7 days, this control panel was part of my toolbox. This and a handful of other system utilities were left behind once contextual menus appeared in Mac OS 8.

Now that I am starting to use System 7.6 again, I dusted it off from my pre-OS 8 arsenal and will put it to good use. As much as I miss the functionality of contextual menus in OS 7, and of course FinderPop, Popup Folder still has some oomph to it.

One 'hidden' feature I definitely liked about it was it's ability to auto-drop the menu bar, just like AutoMenus Pro, staying down until you click them away.

Popup Folder will not work on Mac OS 8 and sadly, a 7.6.x bug shorts the OS when trying to add a shortcut, requiring a reboot. (A rough workaround): if you reboot with any OS 7.5 and below, you can copy the Popup Folder control panel and preferences file, create all the shortcuts that you want, and then use the updated preferences file in 7.6.x. The preference file remembers any shortcuts created in your other system folder. Resorting to these kinds of tricks, especially for extension issues, was pretty common back then.

PopupFolder 2.0.1 was unusable on my Macintosh SE and crashing really often on Mini vMac (SE).

I thought there was no hope, until I found PopupFolder 1.0.1 -> 1.5.1 update and just now PopupFolder™ v1.0.1.dsk.

I have no idea who is PDP-11.RU people, but I could definitely Russian kiss them right now!
