Emulation
Guides on emulating older applications

Palm Desktop software for use with Palm handheld PDAs. Includes a calendar / to do list Mac application which is quite nice to use even without a PDA.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC PPC (Carbonized) x86 (Windows)

Versions 2.6.1 and 2.6.3 are able to run on Mac OS's 7.5.3 and later. They also require the Appearance Manager software installed, when running Palm Desktop on Mac OS's 7.5.3 to 7.6.1

I have successfully installed Palm Desktop 2.6.1 on my 6360 running System 7.5.5. (Palm Desktop requires that the Appearance Extension be enabled to run.)

@Machead: Thanks for that info. Have updated the page description to reflect this.

I have successfully installed Palm Desktop 2.6.1 on my 6360 running System 7.5.5. (Palm Desktop requires that the Appearance Extension be enabled to run.) I use it to sync my Palm III since my Windows 98 computer stopped doing it.

MEGA Mirror: Palm Desktop Software for Handspring Visor

I would also like to thank the person who added the ISO to the file list on the right of the description. It's very much appreciated. I've been quite busy the past two months with my IT consulting that I never got back to uploading it directly to The Garden. I would, however, like to contribute a scan of the disc, if that's alright.

@dronecatcher: You are most certainly welcome. I'm always happy to help a fellow Classic Mac user. Smile

Thanks so much for uploading this...I've been waiting years to test my Handspring Visor with OS9!

I've tested the disc under Windows 98 on my IBM ThinkPad 385ED: The software version is 4.0.1, and it requires Windows 95 and later for use with serial docking cradles, or Windows 98 and later for USB. I have not tested the software with anything from Windows Vista to Windows 8.1, but I can confirm that it will not sync with handhelds under Windows 10; my Visor Deluxe just sits at the HotSync screen without making any progress, despite being connected via USB to DB-9 serial adapter and the official Handspring Visor serial docking cradle.

@rin_elyran: Yes please it to the page, Hybrid originals are always welcome.

If anyone is interested, I would be more than willing to contribute my Palm Desktop Software CD for Handspring Visor handhelds, and it is a Macintosh/Windows hybrid CD.

For Mac, the software - Palm Desktop 2.6.1 - requires OS 7.5.3 or later with serial docking cradles and presumably 8.6 or later for USB. The Windows version is untested and therefore unknown to me. If anyone has an older Windows machine to test the cradle and the CD on, I would love to read about it. Smile

Only if you're silly enough to have the modem's speaker turned on. There's a lmost always been a Preferences option to turn that off. Smile

The only times I have ever had the speaker turned on is when trouble-shooting when it wouldn't connect and when sending a fax via the modem (and that was years ago) to someone who had to answer the phone and then switch over to their fax machine to receive it.

Wow, I have not heard of dial up in a very long time. Do the modems still make that god awful sound while connecting?

I have also got the installer for the newer Palm Desktop 4.2.1 (runs under both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X), but at 20MB there's no way I can upload it with my slow dial-up connection. Sad
