This app works with: SheepShaver,

OmniPage Pro X, an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software for Macintosh computers.

Produced by Nuance Scansoft, a company which had bought out Caere Corporation, who had previously published OmniPage Pro 8 and earlier versions of this OCR software for the Mac.

Some regarded OmniPage Pro X for Mac as being a downgrade step from OmniPage Pro 8 for Mac.

Note, if you have OmniPage Pro 8 for Mac, do not install OmniPage Pro X over it. It will cripple and prevent OmniPage Pro 8 from working.

OmniPage Pro X is no longer for sale by Nuance.

Top DL: Contains English and French installers from year 2001.
MD5 checksum: 2247012bbc7119740845e6db69e8ac7f

2nd DL: English installer only (2003) in a Disk Copy image.
MD5 checksum: 8bdab0442061800c5e2832ee4cdf1965

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC (Carbonized)

For 9, Classic, 10.1 to 10.4.11

Unlikely to be able to use a physical scanner with SheepShaver, but it should be possible to use this software to OCR pre-scanned and bitmapped text in SheepShaver.

Well, I have tested now on Mac OS 9 & it works just fine. So, yes, there is probably an incompatibility with Leopard & above or something wrong... I have myself a french installer dated from 2001 & it fails to install in Mac OS 9. But, here, it's a damaged copy I presume. For the serial, the bypass only works with the second archive & not yours. I don't know why, but never mind.

I think the install starts getting tricky with Leopard and Snow Leopard:

Strange. I did not test it on Mac OS Classic. But on Leopard 10.5.8, the installation failed at the end. The serial is requested on Mac OS X, even by opening the desired installer in the "InstallerMaker Archives" folder, but not with Mac OS 9 finally...

"only the french installer is working"

the English installer worked fine for me on 10.4.11 (see below) - however I did not bypass "the serial entry ... by opening the InstallerMaker Archives folder" - could this be the difference?

Thanks. So, we can leave it as it is for now. Have a nice holiday, again. Smile

[EDIT] Seems that only the french installer is working for the 1st archive, at least on Mac OS X. The second is working fine. Serial is not required however only for Mac OS Classic.

Thanks, MacTouch. The page looks great, too.

Ok. This is now uploaded & I've updated the description. You should modify the page if I have forgotten to add something or if it is required... Have a good holiday, Mike. Wink

@MacTouch: Thanks but I can't - I'm out of the country on holiday for a few weeks, so I don't have access to appropriate machines and OS's.

I think post it up anyway, as there are definite differences in the installers and because of the date difference mainly. Someone may be in a better position to test if its added to the page (and if it fails for any reason it can just as easily be removed again).

Ok. If u can test that & tell me if we need to upload it... Thxs. Smile

I suppose it's not necessary to upload the valid ".img" version

Not unless there is any difference between the two English components? There are however noticeable date/time stamp and checksum differences of the English install componants. jonnyboy's 2001 compared to petermyersaus's 2003

I recently read on a Nuance customer support site that there were updated revisions of version X due to problems running this software on 10.2 and newer, so perhaps the 2003 installer is a bug fix release. In which case it probably should be included here too, as an alternative.

@jonnyboy: Thxs for this software, especially for the french installer included. Your serial is working, as I have tested it. But, the serial entry can be avoided by opening the "InstallerMaker Archives" folder, then the Omnipage installer desired... Smile

@MTT: I suppose it's not necessary to upload the valid ".img" version from petermyersaus... Wink

@jonnyboy: Thanks for the upload and testing of it. I assume this was from the other Pro X page that was here and not from your own archives. @MacTouch: thank you too for your help with this, bringing it to our attention and testing, I've since removed the non-working items and double-up pages.

[Edit] this download contains installers for both English and French language groups, so jonnyboy must have obtained this elsewhere, as the other had English installers only.

added the installer - did NOT test for file corruption or install yet - please remove if this upload has any issues

this serial was listed at *that place* - also untested: 9401A-G00-000000

EDIT: seemed to install in Tiger 10.4.11 OK - if I get a chance to actually use it with a scanner I'll let y'all know

Also added manual

YW. It seems there is may be some corrupted files. So, I have to look at that before uploading... Wink

@MacTouch: Thanks, I had overlooked that other Pro 8 page. It was an easy fix (no file moving required) so that double-up is now removed.

MacTouch's picture

Ok, I will do that. Smile There is 3 pages for Omnipage 8, so, 2 pages for the "Pro" version...

Hi MacTouch. Sure, if you want to. Please add the two files, "Omnipage_Pro_X.img_.sit" and "Omnipage_Pro_X.zip" to this page. I'd like both, as alternative archive formats, the ".sit" mainly for those who want to easily access this on OS 9.

We'll remove the excess pages and credit this page to "petermyersaus" when you've done.

Don't worry about the ver. 8 pages as they are sufficiently different (one is a "Limited Edition" copy).

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure that "quadruple up" are needed for this very good software. So, if u request it, I can transfer useful informations & archives from others pages just for helping. I believe there is also a double up for the version 8, so I can help here too. Wink

TataMisia,

OmniPage 9 LE is good to upload here. I got that version free with a (top of the range) Epson scanner many years ago.

But OmniPage 17 and OmniPage Pro 17 are for Windows only. OmniPage Pro X is the current version for Mac OS.

I didn't delete your upload, it's still on the macintoshgarden server, so it can re-added to the page if an admin thinks it should be abandonware. No updates in 7 years.

I also have a product called Textbridge, I have the Classic version - that came with another, even older Epson scanner - that still works perfectly. It's also now owned by Nuance, when I find it I could upload it also. It's Mac OS 7 through OS8.1 era.

Edit: Changed 'xxx 7' to 'Mac OS 7' - IIGS User

OK. As you wish my lord.
But OmniPage 10 is historical version and is in offer, because is last for Mac classic.
Newest version for Mac OS X have 17 number.
Between 10 and 17 numbers gonne a lot time and .... numbers Smile

I have OmniPage9 CD disk.
It is LE version , supported only 5 most popular languages.
Wothless for me, bacause not supported my langauage.
It gived for free to Agfa scanner.
Its not selled and supported version. Right?
Can I upload here?

Alarm bells going off here. Two issues.

First, it's definitely NOT abandonware. It's STILL the latest version available for Macintosh, details here.

Second, I own this (yep one of the few who paid good money for it), it's definitely not

Just good OCR software

, mediocre at best.

I'll amend the page to remove the download link.
