Emulation
This app works with: SheepShaver, Basilisk II,

An interpreted, flowchart-based, graphical programming language used for creating interactive programs that can integrate a range of multimedia content. (Wikipedia) This was the final version released for the Mac.

Take the lead in on-line learning with Macromedia Authorware 4, the leading authoring tool for developing learning courseware.

Authorware's visual authoring, QuickStart, templates, and reusable course structure (learning engines) make it easier than ever to create engaging interactive courses that promote high levels of understanding and retention.

Smaller files
Leveraging the same compression algorithms used for Shockwave content for offline content, Authorware 4 shrinks 10 MB apps from Authorware 3 down from three quarters to a quarter of their original size.

External linking
Authorware 4 applications can now link to external files from outside of an Authorware project, including files on the web. Change graphics, sounds, movies and other content without requiring a full rebuild of your Authorware project. Alternatively, use functions like Catalog to dynamically read all the images and Authorware-compatible content from a user directory.

Drag and drop
You can now drag media files and web URLs directly to the Authorware flowline, and Authorware will create the corresponding icons and functions to handle playback of that content.

Xtras
Authorware now allows for custom plug-ins through an Xtras API based on Director 6. New support for QuickDraw 3D and VRML is made possible through Macromedia-developed Xtras.

More powerful scripting
The array data structure now supports multiple dimensions (finally!), and comes with support for brand-new data structures that should also be familiar to Director and Lingo enthusiasts; lists, symbols, and property lists. Along with a more sophisticated set of data structures, the scripting engine has been made faster than Authorware 3.

Consistent dialog boxes
Every icon, media object, and source object has a set of properties set through a uniform tabbed dialog box interface. Keeping the menu-hunting to a minimum for new users.

Cross-platform compatibility
Authorware files now share the exact same format across Windows and Macintosh, leaving the only major differences between their playback engines. For cross-platform support, both runtimes and their Xtras are supplied for easier distribution without having to buy another version of Authorware.
