This app works with: Mini vMac

MacMinix is the Macintosh version of MINIX, a Unix clone. MacMINIX unlike other ports of MINIX, runs on top of the Macintosh OS. It also runs really well on Mini vMac.

The ".sit" DL contains a "Stuffed" Disk Copy 6 image file that is more suited for those running a Classic Mac OS or PPC OS X.
MD5 checksum & Filename: 84ccde2ea85267676823826b46a165e9 *macminix-15107.sit
The ".zip" DL contains a zipped ".hfv" drive container, more suited to mounting from a Windows or Unix PC.
MD5 checksum & Filename: ca68fa7a6ba633ea59f5553f7c64a248 *
Both files carry the same content (a usable MacMINIX system), so use whatever suits best.

Alternatively, MacMINIX can be DL'd as a .hqx archive from the official MINIX web pages: MINIX Previous Versions. Go back up one page from this link if you want the source.
Source can also be found here.

For a lot more info & history on this Unix-like OS, I highly recommend Brad's MacMinix Page.

Architecture: 68k

Not compatible with Mac OS 7.6 or newer (app is 24-bit/"32-bit dirty", workaround available in Brad's MacMinix page above).
It's 68k although it might be possible on to run on PPC (See Brad's MacMinix link above).
Probably not compatible on an '040 Mac without patching (patch supplied in DL) so use with caution if trying this on Basilisk II.
Runs very well on Mini vMac running System 6 to 7.5 including the alpha Mini vMac II port. All screenshots above were taken on Mini vMac & MvM II running SSW 6.0.8

Various links on Brad's MacMinix Page are broken, thanks to Wayback many can still be accessed:
The link to the SCSI patch (which allows MacMinix to utilize entire SCSI partitions instead of, or in addition to, the traditional file system that runs on top of the Mac OS file system) can be found here.
Andrew Erickson's man pages (that he converted from the PC version of MINIX; He claims they may be out of date, but they are likely to be more complete than the version that comes with MacMinix) can be found here.
Andrew Erickson's instructions for using the c68 compiler with MacMinix can be found here.

@vintagegeek: Thanks for the heads-up - it only took me 4 years to notice it Tongue.

I've replaced the dodgy .sit with one that I hope is in better shape. It expands without errors for me, here.

Second Download file (zip) above worked fine for me in Mini vMac. sit was corrupt under a couple different unarchivers.
