Install and restore system discs for Mac mini (early 2005):

This install set contains the two .cdr image files of a Single and Dual layer DVD that shipped with my Mac mini G4/1.42 - This set can also double as an install set for the Mac mini G4/1.25 GHz PPC Mac of 2005.

It comprises of; Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, Mac OS 9.2.2 for the Classic environment, the Apple Hardware Test software for this Mac, plus bundled software that shipped with these Mac mini G4's.

  1. Mac OS X Install Disc 1: Mac OS version 10.4, AHT version 1.0, Disc version 1.0, 2Z691-5455-A
The .cdr disc image file is in 5 parts, which will need recombining before use: Part 1 is in a .zip archive that extracts to a folder. Move the remaining part files, *.002 to *.005 into this extracted folder. There is an additional "Merge.app" utility included in the folder to help with the recombination of these following part files:
    • DL #1: Part 1 of 5 for Mac mini Mac OS X Install Disc 1
    • DL #2: Part 2 of 5 for Mac mini Mac OS X Install Disc 1
    • DL #3: Part 3 of 5 for Mac mini Mac OS X Install Disc 1

  2. Mac OS X Install Disc 2: Disc version 1.0, 2Z691-5499-A
The .cdr disc image file is in 8 parts, which will need recombining before use:
Part 1 is in a .zip archive that extracts to a folder. Move the remaining part files, *.002 to *.008 into this extracted folder. There is an additional "Merge.app" utility included in this folder to help with the recombination of these following part files:
    • DL #6: Part 1 of 8 for Mac mini Mac OS X Install Disc 2
    • DL #7: Part 2 of 8 for Mac mini Mac OS X Install Disc 2
    • DL #8: Part 3 of 8 for Mac mini Mac OS X Install Disc 2

EveryMac.com states that this model shipped with 10.3.7 (Panther) but mine was purchased near the end of it's production run and it shipped with 10.4 (Tiger).

The original 10.3.7 disc set for this Mac has been archived at the Internet Archive.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC PPC (Carbonized)

Note: The two ".zip" part files require using the built-in Mac OS X Archive Utility, to correctly extract the contents. Using any other unpacker will give poor results.
That is: Use only the built-in Mac OS X Archive Utility to extract these two files.
