For System 7.0 - 7.6 - Mac OS X

This is issue 3 of the English Mac magazine Mac Format. For those who'd like an idea of what the Macintosh environment was like in mid 1993, this magazine shows what people knew, what they didn't know and what they could expect.

This issue came out in the summer of 1993. Apple have released plans for the future and the MacFormat staff have done their own divining. The fastest ever Mac yet (codenamed Cyclone) is on its way: it has a 40MHz 68040 processor as well as its own DSPs. Other technologies in progress are underway.

The hardware section from page 100 is useful to show what hardware was available at the time.

While Apple should have been concentrating on System 8, they were busy with many, many other things. With the benefit of hindsight, one can see the signs of future trouble.

The image of the cover disk floppy is available here.

The PDF was made from scans from Sketch the Cow's page on the Internet Archive. I've taken the JPEG2000 files, converted them to JPEGs. straightened the images, reduced the size down to 1600x1200 (at 72dpi) and applied auto-correct. In Acrobat 8, I converted them into a PDF, entered in bookmarks, set the version type to Acrobat 4 and ran the OCR. The finished file is almost 63MB.

I have made a mistake with the issue number. It is actually issue 3, not 4.
