Emulation
Guides on emulating older applications

This was a paid upgrade for Logic 7 and enabled the use of all 4 cores on a G5 Quad among other things.

Includes updates 7.2.1 and 7.2.3 from Apple.

A custom install is required to install Logic Pro 7.2 without a Content DVD.

The Logic Pro Content DVD that has been uploaded contains sample projects for Logic Pro 7.2, but by some omission, it doesn't contain the GarageBand Jam Packs and Logic Bonus Content packages. These can be found in Logic Studio as separate DVDs.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC x86 (Intel:Mac)

Minimum Hardware Requirements
• A Macintosh computer with a G4, G5 or Intel Core processor
• Logic Node requires a Macintosh computer with a G5 or Intel Core processor
• 512 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM)
• A free USB port for your XSKey

Important: Logic Pro 7.2 is designed to run natively on both Power PC and Intel-based Macintosh systems. Songs saved in Logic Pro 7.2 Intel can not be opened in older Logic 7 versions. Details about this can be found in the Logic Pro 7.2 Late-Breaking News document.

Minimum Software Requirements
• Mac OS X v10.4.3 or later
• QuickTime 7.0.3 or later

Note: The REX Shared Library © Propellerhead Software is required when using ReCycle files within Logic Pro. More information on ReCycle files can be found at: http://www.propellerheads.se.

Glad you got something working.

I know the pains of working with old hardware too well. I'd love to use the original bits when I can, but emulators thankfully don't fail as spectacularly as hardware can.

Just reporting back. My G5 fried, unfortunately ... stopped powering up. I was fortunate to find a G5 for $13. I couldn't get Logic Pro 7.2 to boot as I don't have an XSKey or a workaround. I did manage to find an old copy of Logic Express 7 I had. I loaded up the old songs and have been exporting stems ... tedious, I know, but it is the best I can do at the moment. Again, thanks for your help!

Thanks Duality for all the info! I really appreciate it. Gonna give it a whirl ... will report back.

Tried a custom install on a fresh Leopard Server install, patched to 10.5.8. It works fine without the Content DVD, despite claims on this page. I'll fix that.

If you don't select the Bonus Content package and GarageBand Sound Loops, it installs cleanly without a fuss. I'll attach a screenshot to this page so you can see what I'm referring to, in the installer's "Customize" screen.

As before, you can get all the bonus content from the many DVDs that come with Logic Studio on this site. I think that makes the Content DVD for Logic Pro 7.2 redundant, especially since the Logic Studio installer will rename your copy of Logic Pro to "Logic Pro 7.2" and let Logic 8 and 7 run side by side. Provided you install Logic Studio after Logic Pro 7.2.

You still need an XSKey to actually use a plain vanilla Logic Pro 7 without workarounds or cracks. Logic 8 was the first to do away with the horrible serial dongles alas, and having Logic 8 installed with Logic 7.2 doesn't remove the XSKey requirement on Logic 7.2.

Well, if you don't already have the USB "XSKey" handy that acts as your serial dongle, you'll also need a workaround or a crack to use Logic Pro 7.

If you need one of the packages from a working Content Disk for Logic Pro 7 to do a minimum install, almost all of them were GarageBand Jam Packs, as I've said, but there was one package for Logic samples that Logic 7 might be cranky about installing without. Pacifist might help forcefully install some things, assuming you have a backup of Mac OS X in case you overwrite something you weren't supposed to.

If you do happen to find a way of using Logic Pro 7 without the XSKey, it'd be nice to apply that to SoundDiver 3.1 Beta 2, which has the same copy protection scheme. Assuming somebody can get the Content Disk situation sorted out.

Hi Duality. Thanks for the info! In fact I am trying to import older projects which is why I'm looking to make 7.2 work. Any help on that would be greatly appreciated. BTW, in a forum on Logic Pro Help i read that 7.2 works on El Capitan which is what i'm operating on.

There's definitely something wrong with the content DVD.

The original is a double-sided DVD that's over 7 GB. It looks like this DVD wasn't copied byte-for-byte, instead an alias was placed to the directory that had the installer packages. Most of that comes from the GarageBand sample packs that don't have anything you couldn't find from Logic Studio (Logic Pro 8).

I don't have this DVD anymore. Though, I'm not sure the DVD's absence is really something to be worried about given that the content can be found elsewhere.

Besides that, this version of Logic requires Tiger. Logic Studio also requires Tiger, can be installed alongside Logic Pro 7, and though a fully patched Studio might require Leopard, you're not really missing anything from Logic Pro 7 besides the ability to import older Logic projects, and the old Logic UI.

Will look into that. I only have the original version 7 DVD's.
Don't know if that got updated for the upgrade package 7.2.

Hi willnubu! Were you successful in getting the whole content DVD or figuring this matter out?

The Logic_Pro_Content.dmg is just demos. Do have the whole content DVD?

Thanks for the upload! One problem though, could you please re-upload the Logic Pro Content DVD? It looks like an alias/shortcut of the LogicProContent.mpkg was put into the image and not the actual mpkg itself. The installer keeps asking for the Logic Pro Content disk even after I mount it.

Heh!
Thanks a lot for adding the screenshot and the content DVD, makes it so much nicer and complete.
