Key Caps version 10.0.3

This copy is from a Jaguar Mac OS X 10.2.8 install.

If you remember the old Key Caps program from the classic Mac days, this may bring back some fond memories.

I was surprised to find that distribution of Key Caps didn't end with Mac OS 9.2.2 but had been included as part of the Mac OS X system install up until 10.2.8 when it was only after then finally removed from Mac OS installations with Mac OS X 10.3.0 onwards.

To my own even greater surprise, I discovered that this version of Key Caps will run under Panther too.
It is also compatible with Tiger 10.4.11 but not with Leopard 10.5 - except for (See DL #'s below):

So here is the final version of the Key Caps app, for anyone who wants to try it out in a later Mac OS.

Compatibility
Architecture: PPC (Carbonized)

Carbon app.

Tested working for me under 10.6 rosetta, keyboard layout even matches my MBP. Wow. I'm keeping this. Big smile

Thanks. That works pretty darned good in Leopard, too.

I think I can live without the "About Box" Wink

Better test your upload under Rosetta next.

Mind trying the key caps i just uploaded, on a leopard computer? It really does work (at least for me) on leopard while the about dialog does not. I did the other way around, removing the carbon calls not in leopard (namely the about box).

Yep, Tiger is the latest that it will actually run correctly on, unless possibly the OS gets patched with what's missing, but I'm not going to bother.

I must've been bored too and replaced the ".sit" with a .dmg - No unarchiving required.

Uhh, Key Caps now runs on leopard. I was bored. The "About Key Caps" menu item no longer does anything though, it needed code absent in 10.5.

I guess you decompressed with stuffit on tiger and panther as well? I used The Unarchiver, that might be the explanation.

Well this is only 135KB, should zip be desirable Tongue

Thanks, yes it does run in Tiger too. Will update that page info.

Not sure why it had discarded permissions for you, as it it extracts fine for me, permissions intact, on Panther & Tiger, and as its not required for any later OS's, .sit should be fine.

[Edit] My StuffIt Expander app has "Set execute permissions by default" checked, in it's setup options. Perhaps unchecked or not an available option in yours?

This one looks friendlier than keyboard viewer Glasses

By the way.. it looks like stuffit discarded permissions from the archive, as the executable has no execute bit. Since archive utility was in panther+, could that make an OS X zip preferable?

Can report it doesn't work under leopard but does in tiger
