Root Certificates compromised:
The version of IE 4.x for the Macintosh (no other platform) ships with both the old and the new roots. To get it to work, you need to delete the old root. In your security preferences, find the Thawte Server CA roots that expired in 1998 (there should be two of them). Delete them. If you are asked for a password, leave it blank. Do NOT delete the newer roots which expire in 2020. You will now be able to connect cleanly.
Comments
This has been added to the DL's above as "IE401-Full-Fat-128-img.sit" (21.72 MB). The Java install isn't separate tho', as it's included with the Standard FAT install - a Custom install allows you to choose to include it or opt out (plus other options). The 128-bit encryption update is a separate install.
According to this page: http://macfaq.org/software/browsers.shtml
there were actually separate installers for java support and 128-bit encryption, I hope someone has these somewhere on one of their old back up disks just waiting to be uploaded.
Now uploading IE4+ to the internal server.- finished. The PowerPC version can be found at oldapps.com
