Emulation
This app works with: SheepShaver, Basilisk II, Mini vMac

Almost indispensable utility for changing file types and creator codes. It includes many powerful features such as batches, filtering, and directory searches. It can also create self-contained droplet apps that automatically change to preset type/creator codes. If you manually change the creator and the file types frequently, this utility is definitely for you, just drag a file into a "drop box" and it will change any file attribute you want, in less than 1 second!

Its a $10 shareware and still downloadable from the author's web pages (version 5.5.1), but whether you can pay a registration fee for it, is questionable (all payment links go to the now defunct kagi.com).

See Also: Creator Changer 2.8.4, FileType 1.0.1, iLikeYouMore, The Lone Ranger, TypesChange CM Plugin.

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k PPC

Of the applications included with the above downloads:

FileTyper and FileTyper Lite to v5.3.1 are 68k native.
All MakeAutoTyper droplet creators are 68k and PPC native (FAT)
FileTyper v5.5.1 is also FAT
All droplet apps created by the MakeAutoTyper app are 68k native only.
All will run on both classic 68k & PPC Mac OS's OK.

Yep, its an oddity really (the site was last updated in 2000). i.e.; the registration details all point to kagi, including his contact email, so they're not going to go anywhere. I'm removing the purchase link but will leave the link to the site as that's still working.

I have put up v 5.5.1 here even though it is available from the author website because it is more than 10 years old. This version is also available in various shareware software compilations.

I didn't think that FileTyper was ever anything but freeware under OS9. Things may be different under OSX tho. There may also be FileTyper Pro... cannot remember

Filetyper (v5.5.1 is the latest) is still being sold: I bought a license not long ago.
