  • Compatibility with Photoshop 7 and Elements 2 on Mac OS X: Mask Pro 3.0 operates in Photoshop 6 on OS 9 or Photoshop 7 on OS 9 and OS X. Photoshop Elements 2.0 also operates on OS 9 and OS X.
  • Improved Masking Engine: The masking engine in Mask Pro 3.0 has been rewritten to improve the product's range of capabilities.
  • Color Decontamination: The most important new feature in Mask Pro 3.0 is Color Decontamination. Located in the new Tool Options palette, the Color Decontamination checkbox can be enabled when keep/drop colors are defined. When enabled, color decontamination enhances masking of semitransparent edges and objects like hair and glass. The feature extracts the background color from partially visible pixels, removing the halo that can be left after masking.
  • Highlighter Tools: Use the Keep or Drop Highlighter tools to define Keep and Drop areas in your image. Pixels will be kept or dropped depending upon the colors detected on the edge of the highlighted areas.
  • Blur Tool: This new tool softens the edges of a mask in order to blend it more smoothly into different backgrounds.
  • Chisel Tool: This new tool provides precision mask edge adjustments by choking or spreading fractions of pixels from any area of the mask.
  • Mouse Wheel Support (OS X only): Use your mouse wheel to quickly and efficiently adjust options for specific Mask Pro tools.
  • Keep/Drop Palette Improvements: A new thumbnail section in each color selection represents the sample's image area.
  • Tool Options Palette: A Tool Options palette has been added to control the selected tool's options. This streamlines all of the tool options palettes into one context sensitive location.
  • Enhanced Compositing: Advanced color decontamination (discussed above) improves blending with new image backgrounds. The Composite view shows the new background on its separate layer while you mask your image. Use the Original view for a quick and easy comparison between the pre-masked and post-masked image.

• System Requirements:
  • Adobe Photoshop 6.01 (64 MB minimum RAM) or 7.01 or later (128 MB minimum RAM)
  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 (128 MB minimum RAM)
  • 125 MB free hard disk space
  • A Macintosh with a PowerPC processor - G3 or newer
  • Mac OS version 9.2.2 and 10.1.5 or later
• Notes:
  1. If Photoshop version 6, or version 7, or Elements 2 are not detected as installed on the target Mac OS, the Mask Pro 3 install will not proceed (see screenshot #3 above).
      
  2. The installer version is very "picky" as to the OS versions and Photoshop versions it would allow you to install Mask Pro 3.0 onto. - Essentially, Photoshop 6 and 7, and Mac OS 9.2.2 & X, only.
      
  3. In order to have the Mask Pro 3.0 plug-in running under other Mac OS and Photoshop versions; Using the pre-installed copy in download #2, above, will permit you to do so. I've tested this copy as working OK in Photoshop 5.5, 6.x, 7.x, 8.x (CS1). It may work in newer versions of Photoshop but I don't have CS2 or later installed for testing.
