Canvas 5.0.1 with updates to 5.0.3 for Macintosh. A "Jack of all (DTP) trades. Master of none". At least that was the "put down" slogan from the competition. Actually, Deneba Canvas was an excellent all rounder drawing and publication program. And for better or for worse, version 5.0.3 was the final Canvas release to run on 68k Macintosh.
This is the complete distribution of version 5.0.1. It consists of 3 CD's (Install Disc, Clip Art CD 1, Clip Art CD 2) and a set of 10 install floppy disks (uploaded here) for those who did not have a CD reader (Aside: I had to break the seal of the package containing the floppies to copy them here as I had never used them, having used the CD's instead). The SN is with the floppy disk download. Also uploaded here is the PPC updater to version 5.0.3. There were also 68K and Fat versions of the 5.0.3 update, but we do not have them. Finally available are copies of the "Getting Started" manual and the "Quick Reference" (links provided for convenience), as well as scans of one of the CD's and one of the floppy disks.

CompatibilityTop DL: StuffIt 5.5 archive of the original Canvas version 5.0.1 floppy disk install set as Disk Copy 4.2 disk image files. It will install as either a 68k or PPC copy depending on your hardware. Runs well in Basilisk II or SheepShaver. Not suitable for 68000 CPU Macs such as the Plus, SE or Mini vMac.
3rd DL: StuffIt archive contains a Disk Copy 6.3 image file of Canvas 5.0.2. The installer for 5.0.2 will install as either a 68k or PPC copy depending on your hardware. Runs well in Basilisk II or SheepShaver. Not suitable for 68000 CPU Macs or Mini vMac.
4th DL: A Zipped achive containing a .ISO image file of Mac and Windows installers of Canvas 5.0.2. The ISO image mounts as an "Update" disk, but it installs the full program without an earlier version needing to be present, and includes full documentation.
6th DL: A StuffIt 3.6 archive containing a .ISO image file of Canvas 5.0.3 (mount using the Virtual CD/DVD Utility). The installer for 5.0.3 will install as either a 68k or PPC copy depending on your hardware. An Optional install can install a FAT version if desired. It does not require an updater, this was as "good as it gets" for the version 5 series of Canvas for Macintosh. Runs well in Basilisk II or SheepShaver. Not suitable for 68000 CPU Macs or Mini vMac.
The additional archives by mrdav are as follows: CDs are toast images. Floppy disks are Disk Copy 4.2 images in a folder. The updater is a DiskCopy 6.3 img...all compressed with StuffIt 5.5

This has been solved:
Ignore the demo mode only code included in with the hybrid Mac/Win iso and use: W121-754710 instead.
I spent an awful lot of time trying to track this down, to no avail. Yet the answer was simple. Replace the given demo code beginning "W000-" with "W121-" and it works
Screenshot #3, thanks for the hint. As this is a Mac-only CD-ROM then,
I'll start to upload it as well.
The install disc image is mine made from original media that is Mac only. The archive contains the install disc and the serial number. When mounted the disc is called "Installer, Fonts & Clip Art". Screenshot #3 is a picture of the disc
Clip Arts has been uploaded to the internal server.
Still a question about the file "C5_disk.sit (Install Disc)"
This is a Mac-only image, compared to the #4 "Canvas-502-Mac-Win.zip" (58.56 MB) above?
No. Only version 5 serials will work.
I have only a serial for the Windows version 8. Not sure it could work with this one...
Hi 24bit and MacTouch. Thanks for looking. No, the Windows installer will not accept a Mac serial (all beginning with "M" are Mac only).
It is most likely that if you do come across a Windows serial, it will begin with "W", like the demo example in my previous post (and visible in screenshot #6), as in "Wnnn-nnnnnnnnn".
I don't posses a Windows equivalent of surfers to check against.
I found a few for 5.X.Y:
MSPC-08500000
M122-16551409
M131-049437908
M163-189025328
M151-753113856
M151-753113857
M151-753113859
M231-112383509
M222-698079468
No idea whether those are WIN or Mac or if its wise to list them here like this.
Hi Mike, are you searching a serial for the Windows version 5 of Canvas ? This cannot be the same as for Mac OS ?
Thanks for the updater, mrdav. It is getting hard to find them. The 5.0.3 FAT updater seems difficult to source. Although I have come across a 5.0.2 update install for both Mac and Win on CD. Despite it claiming to be an update, it installs the full program without an earlier version needing to be present, plus has full documentation. I'm in the process of zipping this up and also adding it to the page.
[Edit] Have met a snag with the Windows install. I've only been able to find a serial to enable the program as a Demo app; W000-754710, the Mac side is a lot easier. So if anyone knows of a full serial for the Windows side, this would be a great help.
Actually I didn't mind this version so much and thought that version 6 was the dogs breakfast. Much improved by version 7 and version 8. - Tho' Canvas didn't "die" at version 8 with the company. Deneba was bought out by ACD Systems in 2003 and Canvas 8 was followed by version 9 and then version X - The Mac side was split off from Canvas X in 2007 and it now exists as "Canvas Draw 4 for Mac". I haven't tried Canvas Draw, but what I've seen of it looks really good and it's competitively priced as a vector/layout/illustration app.
I was a Canvas devotee with v3.5. When v5.0 came out I was eager to try it out.
What a DISASTER. The interface was totally different. It was painfully slow and crashed all the time. I believe that this update buried Canvas and put Deneba out of business.
But before the company died they released v8.0 that proved to be better than v5 by a large extent. It was STILL not as useful or easy to use as v3.5 was.

I have just uploaded an updater to v. 5.0.2 that I found on MacAddict 13. It claims to update earlier versions of Canvas to a FAT binary v. 5.0.2 even though the updater itself is a 68k application. I have not tested this.
@mrdav: Thanks for re-uploading the screenshots. I will likely put in a request for the CD images later. I'm OS at the moment, traveling and have very low bandwidth most of the time. Back home in approx 4 weeks. Cheers.
You are right. The images don't come up when I click on the thumbnails. I will reupload them soon.
@MikeTomTom
Curious that you cannot see the screenshots of CD and floppy. They are the 3rd and 4th images that I can see above. I can put my Canvas5 archives somewhere else as well. Where would you like me to put them so you can get at them?
Thank you MikeTomTom! Have a nice day!
