Comments
Even though the official system requirements for Connectix Virtual PC 5.0 states a 400 MHz G3 processor, it runs perfectly as close as it can get on an Indigo iMac G3 (2000, 350MHz) running Mac OS X 10.1.5 Puma without any issues whatsoever.
I added an additional serial number for you all.
I added the Windows 98/ME freeware kernel extender to the downloads. This is an excellent addition for any Win98/Millennium install even in an emulator. This extends the usefulness of Win98/ME by allowing it to run newer WinXP software such as Firefox 10 etc. if you have enough memory and processing power in your emulator/machine. Once installed there is a file and a Wiki link in the Start menu to show you what works and what doesn't work.
Thanks for the restoration, mrdav.
Great, thanks for that mrdav ... glad to know everything's good.
It's a great app, especially with Win98 bundled - which is the best Win for VPC if you ask me.
Anything higher, just slows it right down - to the point of becoming irritating.
I did download it and it is faulty. So my previous upload was incomplete. I will reupload very soon.
2nd DL deleted in preparation for reupload
EDIT: Re-upoad complete
@mrdav, I may be able to save you the trouble....
The "faulty" file ....
VirtualPC5W98SE.sit ...... @ 594,556,772 bytes,
I have here is giving me the following md5 value (using checkSum+ 1.5)
e25c37802a45b05ff482279afbfae1dd = md5
I'm surmising that your copy will give a different ("correct") value!
The copy that I have is OK, but I will download what is here and check that. It is possible that my re-upload a while back was incomplete. I will check in about 8 hours.
@ mrdav, Yes it was .toast you are right, my mistake - I must have renamed it to .dmg in an attempt to mount it & forgot about doing so.
Alas, I still say it's faulty though.
Tried "The Unarchiver 3.9.1" under 10.4,
as suggested....
- and still dud.
It's too large a file to download on a whim, (I've d/l 3 time now from both sources).
So long as it's logged as possibly faulty - for anyone else who wants to d/l it.
Please do not erase the file. The archive is OK. I don't know what application you were using to uncompress, but sometimes the modern versions of UnStuffIt have a problem with old archives. I suggest you try the Unarchiver...it works for me.
BTW the contents of the second archive are Toast files (no dmg) and docs, unless someone has changed the archive since I last reuploaded it
Sadly looks like the 2nd download is (has become?) corrupt , as is also maxx's version (either that or there's something seriously wrong with my un-archivers).
Which is a shame as this is a very useful app.
The first download is fine.
The second archive contains two files ...
(1) VPC 5.04 Update only - Intact
(2) VirtualPC_5_0.dmg (@563 M) - Corrupt (fails MD5 checksum info, also enclosed)
Not sure what the bulk of the second download contained exactly - Could be a Win98SE.iso
or it could be a ready made .vhd - if so, it isn't so bad as have one of those bundled with
VPC 3.03.
Either way suggest erase the file - but please validate corruption independently first.
Re-uploaded the external archive
Windows 98 links please!!!

I hated the "update", but anyway, who cares Im not using it any more
xy... try it and find out? As for VPC 5, this is a great program, better than VPC 6 in my opinion. Can't quite recall why at the moment, but whatever they added in v6 just bloated it. Haven't tried VPC7 yet, but it may be necessary to run Windows7.
Does anyone know whether on the PC DOS 2000 preinstall WordPerfect 5.1 will run?

Argh!
thanks
it works now!!! that a bunch for uploading it
I'm getting the same error too. I'll do a post about it in the forum.
Edit: I followed eastone advice and reuploaded the archive--but under a different name. Everything works for me. So even though we still have no idea why this happen, at least we know the workaround: rename and reupload. It's not a good workaround for big files, though.
Thank you very much for uploading it! Unfortunately it shows an error when trying to download it.
