"Commotion is a visual effects application, originally released by Puffin Designs. Puffin Designs was founded by Scott Squires (Visual Effects Supervisor at Industrial Light and Magic) and Forest Key to market Commotion.
Commotion set a high standard for a rotoscoping application, introducing rotosplines and offering features like motion tracking and motion blurring for masks. It was the first desktop application to allow real-time playback of full quality video clips from RAM."

Aaargh, this app only runs on power Macs.
What a gem, didnt expect to find that here.
i love hearing stories like that axphin! scott squires who created this software worked at ILM with thomas knoll who co-created photoshop. it looks like commotion died after pinnacle acquired puffin a few years later.
An early beta version of Commotion was used to do wire removal for the movie Deep Impact (the playback clips that were used in the monitors). We used mac clones to rotoscope and render out the clips.
