MacProject Pro is designed to help people who are responsible for finishing projects on time and on budget. It was one of the first major business tools for the Macintosh which enabled users to calculate the "critical path" to completion and estimate costs in money and time. If a project deadline was missed or if available resources changed, MacProject recalculated everything automatically. It was written by Debra Willrett at Solosoft, and was published and distributed by Apple Computer to promote the original Macintosh personal computer.

Whether it is the right tool for you depends largely on how you like to visualize information. MacProject Pro's main organizing chart, a PERT network chart, shows each task as a separate box connected with straight lines to related tasks; MacProject Pro is a well-designed and useful tool for seeing tasks displayed this way.

Originally it was developed from an earlier application written by Debra Willrett for Apple's Lisa computer, LisaProject. This was the first graphical user interface (GUI) for project management. There were many other project management applications on the market at the time, but LisaProject was the first to simplify the process by allowing the user to interactively draw their project on the computer in the form of a PERT chart. Constraints could be entered for each task, and the relationships between tasks would show which ones had to be completed before a task could begin. Given the task constraints and relationships, a "critical path", schedule and budget could be calculated dynamically using heuristic methods.

From Macworld, May 1993:

Pros: New scheduling and formatting features; improved resource-management and analysis tools; well-designed interface; easy to customize; great manual. Cons: Limited integration between program charts; multistep scheduling process. Requires: Mac Plus; 2MB of RAM; hard drive; System 6.0.5. List price: $599.

I added a couple of screenshots from running it in Sheepsaver and OS 9.

I've uploaded a disk image containing the full installer.

Thanks for uploading this. The main problem is there is no help file as this would be stored in the System Folder.

Balrog: You have what I have, it's from the University CD. Wink

There is an installer, and I believe there's also an installer script along with it, both in the first folder. You sir are more qualified than I to perform that surgery. I/we had no success trying to exorcise the installer the last time. Wink

I just used the same tricks that I learned from the BrushStrokes upload.

In my assessment, since ResEdit is the necessary tool to fix this either way (installer or not), because the original is not virgin, I'm not sure that it's beneficial to pursue a different route to this upload. The end result would be the same in terms of "preservation" being slightly compromised, yet we have a working copy. Smile

Do you have the installer? May be possible to clean THAT up...

I'm going to be lazy with this upload and allow someone else that actually uses this program to upload a better, more descriptive screen shot.

NOTE: The app was taken from a college CD that contained some unique programs. It wasn't exactly a virgin and needed to have the original S/N and "Registered to" fields removed. Hence why it was uploaded as a full copy and not an installer version.

Special thanks to Balrog for "teaching me how to fish".
