Burn 2.5
Files deleted by the Macintosh through the trash can are easily recovered using
most disk utilities, including Norton and MacTools. Burn securely erases data in sensitive
files by overwritting the data one or more times before the file is deleted. When combined
with encryption such as that provided by Enigma a user of Burn can keep their system's
sensitve data completely secure.

Although Next Wave Software reserves all rights to Burn (especially for-profit
redistribution), it is a free program provided as a service to the Macintosh community.

Key Features of Burn
Lightning fast file erasure
Scriptable
Erase Free Space command to protect all sectors on your disk
Easy drag-and-drop interface
User configerable erase pattern and erase passes

What's new in Version 2.5
Fully tested and compatible with Mac OS 8.5 and the Mac OS Extended file system
Fixed a bug where not all free space was erased on volumes with more than 2
gigabytes of free space available.
System Requirements
This application requires System 7, about 200k of disk space, and 400k of RAM. If you
still use System 6 contact Next Wave Software for a version compatible with your
operating system.

Burn 2.5 Release Notes
----------------------

Be sure to read the documentation fully, it's worth a couple of minutes.

Two important warnings when using Burn:

1. Unless you are using System Software 7.5.3 or newer: when an alias is dragged
to Burn the original is destroyed, not the alias. This is different from the behavior of
the Macintosh trash.

2. Before using the erase free space option you should use a disk check
utility such as Apple's Disk First Aid to be sure your disk is healthy.
If your disk already has a damaged directory Burn could damage it further.
