Born Again is a utility that allows one to install Mac OS 8 or Mac OS 8.1 onto a 68030-based Macintosh.

Following the introduction of Mac OS 8, Apple dropped support for 68030 models. Born Again permits these legacy computers to use Mac OS 8 and/or Mac OS 8.1.

By using Born Again, the user can take advantage of several key features, like:

Born Again 1.0 was originally distributed as Shareware and is limited to three uses per machine. Version 1.1 is a timed, 30-day trial; you must set your clock back before opening the archive in order to use it.

There seems to be an issue actually running version 1.1. It's a timed demo that relies on Aladdin Transaction Engine, but even if I set the date back to like 2001 on my computer and reinstall, the trial version still refuses to run...

EDIT: So, you must set your clock back before unstuffing the archive for 1.1. I set it to 1 December 2000, and that seemed to work.

EDIT 2: I am getting an error that Born Again 1.1 cannot update a file from my 8.1 CD and just asks if I want to restart the process (which results in the same error). I guess I'll just try 1.0 and not torture myself...

Thanks! I've uploaded it here and updated the description, in particular the list of compatible devices, which needed some reorganization.

This Utility is just fantastic!
I used to use it to let run my IIsi & a Performa 630 with Mac OS 8 – which were actually capable to do so by the way.

Just a gorgeous Utility which was inside my everyday App portfolio with other tools like SerialSpeed 230, A-Dock an so on – back then … Wink

In this sense

I wonder if this would work in Mini vMac some day...

Handy, but it would need to be a 200MHz 68030 to enjoy 8.1 and it's software.
