Guides on emulating older applications

I have a quite large collection of original Apple medias.
I am regularly receiving more medias.
It is hard for me track what I can upload to the MG web-site.
Attached is a file that contains a list of medias available for upload.
I will keep updating this list when new medias arrive and become available.
Please let me know which medias should I upload (and to where to upload it).

Note1: On the past I made a forum post with the same idea. However, it proved not be the best way.
Note2: All the items on these lists, unless stated otherwise, are physical items I own

2017-July-11 14:16: More new medias added. Text files consolidated to one.
2017-June-17 01:35: Part Number list updated with about 400 new arrivals.
2017-Apr-19 05:50: Part Number list updated with new arrivals + Initial Apple documentation PNs

Thx. I should've been able to rename my old copy with ".zip" at the end, and have it work that way, but based on file size my copy was cut short.

Hi SkyCapt, I've found it elsewhere, so I've uploaded it on the concerned page (last DL). Smile

Hello, do you have the Apple Hardware Test disc image you named "691-2619-A", if so can you upload it (again) to the Apple Hardware Test CDs/PowerMac G4 page. I have a 5.6MB download of yours sounds about right size for toast.zip but I don't see it on the pages now and mine won't unzip because you gave it an extension name "_CD.001". This is supposed to be AHT v1.0 for Power Mac G4.

It turns out I actually have the iMac's 10.4.10 discs and they contain the 2600 drivers (dated 2007-07-12) so my request can be ignored. Doh!

SkyCapt's picture
by SkyCapt - 2019, April 9 - 11:42pm

iMac 2007 with 2600 can use "any" Tiger, and then you add this to it:
http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/imac-2007-software-update-121

Maybe this update works with 2400 graphics also? And, maybe the iMac 10.4.10 disc still isn't good enough for the 2600 graphics?

Would it be possible for you to upload

691-6022-A,2Z DVD DL 2007 iMac. Mac OS X Install Disc 1. Mac OS v10.4.10. AHT v3A127. Disc v1.0 {691-6023}

10.4.10 for the 2007 MacBook Pro is there already, but I think drivers for the Radeon HD 2400/2600 are only included in the iMac-specific build.

I am searching for the original Clamshell installation CDs of Mac OS 8.6 (first and earliest release) and 9.0 in german.

Original Clamshell: iBook G3 M7707LL/A, PowerBook2,1 (everymac.com).

Please, if anyone has them, upload... Thanks.

I compared the list with the gray installation CDs/DVDs I have and I found the following:

691-2511-A (CD) Power Mac G4 Software Restore. SSW v9.0
691-2512-A (CD) Power Mac G4 Software Install. SSW v9.0

I have those too, but the German version, so mine say D691-2511-A and D691-2512-A. They are ©1999 and contain Mac OS 9.0, although it doesn't say anything about the version on the disc label itself, just "Power Mac G4" and in german "Software Restore" (yeah, german...) and "Softwareinstallation"

Additionally I have SSW 9.0.4 in english for the same Power Mac G4, they are not in your list:

691-2739-A (CD) Power Mac G4 Software Install. SSW v9.0.4
691-2740-A (CD) Power Mac G4 Software Restore. SSW v9.0.4

This one is english and actually says "SSW version 9.0.4", it is ©2000.

I also have gray eMac DVDs, not in your list:

691-4909-A (DVD) eMac Software Install and Restore 1 of 2, Mac OS version 10.3.3, AHT version 2.2, DVD version 1.0
2Z691-4910-A (DVD) eMac Software Install and Restore 2 of 2, DVD version 1.1

It is, obviously, in english language (which doesn't matter when it comes to Mac OS X) and both DVDs are ©2004.

For the Power Mac G5 (original, 2003) I have, not in your list:

D691-4680-A (DVD) Power Mac G5 Software-Installation und -Wiederherstellung (mit Apple Hardware Test), Mac OS Version 10.3, AHT Version 2.1.1, DVD Version 1.0
D691-5313-A (CD) Power Mac G5 Zusätzliche Software & Apple Hardware Test, AHT Version 2.2.5, CD Version 1.0

The first one is ©2003 while the second one is ©2005. "Zusätzliche Software" translates as "Additional Software" and it contains the installable images of Mac OS 9.2.2 for the Classic Environment in a couple of languages. Getting Classic has never been easier. AFAIK it installs on any Mac model.

Last but not least, for the Late-2005 Power Mac G5, in your list:

691-5025-A (DVD) Power Mac G5. Mac OS X Install Disc 1. Mac OS v10.4.2. AHT v2.5.2. Disc v1.0
691-5535-A (DVD DL) Mac OS X Install Disc 2. Includes Mac OS 9.2. Disc v1.0

The only difference I see here is that mine start with 2Z, so 2Z691-5025-A and 2Z691-5535-A.

If someone is interested, PM me.

I acquired a 1.67 GHz PowerBook G4 (model no. A1106, early 2005) a couple years ago, but hadn't had time to clean and restore it till just recently, and I would appreciate any help in getting it back up and running after I wipe the hard drive. I know I could probably unearth my Tiger install discs, but I would prefer to use a copy of the original install media.

That being said, can anyone upload the following disc? The locale I need is US English:

- 691-5146-A DVD PowerBook G4 15-inch and 17-inch. Mac OS X Install Disc. Mac OS v10.3.7. AHT v2.5. Disc v1.0

Thank you very much for your help.

I recently acquired an education-only market eMac from 2004 that ran at 1 GHz. I've successfully replaced the blown capacitors on the step down board, and even have it running reliably overclocked to 1.5 GHz! It originally came configured with a CD-ROM only, so I tried to use the published restore set here:

http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/emac-g4142-2005-software-restore-media-s...

However, I was unable to burn and successfully restore from that set. Since then, I've found and installed a DVD drive, so now I'd like to request these two discs:

691-5518-A DVD DL eMac. Mac OS X Install Disc 1. Mac OS v10.4. AHT v2.5. Disc v1.1
691-5493-A,2Z DVD DL 2005 Mac OS X Install Disc 2. Includes Mac OS v9.2. Disc v1.0

You could simply add them to the published restore set page referenced above as I believe this two DVD set restores the same version of OS X and applications as are provided on the sixteen CD set already published. It's just a matter of whether or not the eMac came with a CD-ROM or DVD drive.

As always, my sincere thanks for all your efforts to collect and post these system restore sets. There's nothing like the smell of a factory fresh system image on one of these beloved old Macs in the morning--am I right?

I've been looking forever for the following ones:

691-0326 CD Apple Restoration CD System Software Disk 1 Sep 1994
691-0327 CD Apple Restoration CD System Software Disk 2 Sep 1994
691-0884 CD Apple Restoration CD System Software Disk 4 Nov 1995
691-1081-A CD Apple Restoration CD System Software Disk 4 Aug 1996

If you could upload any of them, maybe starting with 691-0884 CD Apple Restoration CD System Software Disk 4 Nov 1995, I would be very grateful!

These contain the original hard drive images for many of the early Macs, including the system software and other goodies that was preinstalled at the factory.

Looking for the restore disks that go with my iMac G4 20-inch USB 2.0

As I understand it, the earliest version of Mac OS X that came with it is 10.3. It does not use the same disks as the other USB 2.0 iMac G4s, which ran 10.2.7

The closest I could find in your list are either 691-4778-A, or 691-4850-A and 691-4849-A

I've been looking for the original set of discs that came with my iMac Indigo Summer 2001 (http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac_500_indigo.html) for some time. I think I found them on your list:

691-3176-A CD iMac. Software Install. Mac OS v9.2. Disc v1.0
691-3177-A CD iMac. Software Restore 1 of 4. Mac OS v9,2, v10.0.4. Disc v1.0
691-3178-A CD iMac. Software Restore 2 of 4. Mac OS v9.2, v10.0.4. Disc v1.0
691-3179-A CD iMac. Software Restore 3 of 4. Mac OS v9,2, v10.0.4. Disc v1.0
691-3180-A CD iMac. Software Restore 4 of 4. Mac OS v9,2, v10.0.4. Disc v1.0
691-3195-A CD iMac. Applications. Disc v1.3
691-3201-A CD iMac. Software Install. Mac OS v10.04. Disc v1.0

I've seen at least one other person with an Indigo iMac looking for them, so it would be ideal if you could upload them here as a set on the Macintosh Garden. If not, let me know and I'll arrange some sort of place we can use to transfer them.

Much appreciation and gratitude in advance for all the time and effort you put in sharing your impressive collection with the rest of us!

semvalidade2006 Alright...sadly mine's not based on actually owning the hardware though I have managed to keep the media from what I have owned. I work for a place that has had access to most Mac hardware throughout the ages. While I'm not going to boast my collection has been built over 15 years of collecting what I want randomly from lots of people including my own stuff, Mac Garden, Max, etc. My collection is OS 9-based primarily but I can safely say that I can provide either the original discs for any Mac, but not quite all. For instance, if you are looking for the discs for a PowerMac G4 (MDD 2003), I have them. If you are looking for the original discs for a PowerBook 400/500, I have them. Anything prior to OS 8, I may have them or have access to restore media that can provide disc images. Hence my interest in your Restoration CDs. One hole I'm trying to plug is that I don't have every Performa 7.1P special version that was released. I'm guessing your discs may help me on that. I have every reference retail build from 6.0 all the way to the current build of OS X (with two notable missing items...6.0.1 and 9.0.1 [which may just not exist anywhere].

Anything that booted OS 9, I have the original discs for. I requested your eMac 9.2.2 disc to maybe see if there is the off chance that your's is newer...I doubt it, but wanted to check.) Anything that booted OS 8, same there. I wanted to get the Mac Server 8.6 discs as mine is 8.5 for that model.

In System 7 era, I would love to find the original discs for a PowerBook 2400c running 7.6.1 (that may not have existed because Apple decided not to ship to the US until OS 8 released. I don't have every media for System 7, but do have the Restore discs that work. I have the System 7.5.4 update that no one has from a very interesting source. I have a full disc set for 6.0.6 which I shared with MacGarden. I also have most mainstream Application software. For instance, I shared my Office 3.x disk (containing unmolested copies of Word 5.1a, Excel 4.0 and PowerPoint 3.0 (with the b update).

One hole in my collection you can definitely help plug is the Network Server stuff...never have had one.

Trying to build some form of a quick list for you as I type this. Again I specialize in pre OS X, but have decent size collection of OS X stuff too. I have entire disk set for each of the 1.x versions of OS X Server.

Lots more...I figured the fastest way is to send you screenshots privately of what I have. I'm only sending privately because some of my collection is unsharable (mostly modern stuff not appropriate for abandonware purposes). Finally on a practical note...I tried to upload quick screenshots of some of my collection and noted that your Google drive is not giving me permission to upload. Thank you again for sharing...I do want to make a point to share what I have with folks, but I have two rules on that. One, if I'm told not to share by my sources, I don't. (very, very few items in my collection covered by that rule). Two, I want to share, but I have time constraints as I'm guessing you do as well. That's why I'm not poking at getting my requests urgently. That being said, if you have 2-3 things you might want from me, I will pay it forward and help you so you see that I'm serious.

blackholemac, I have a garage packed with Apple hardware. My collection contains one exemplar of each Mac Classic computers (the beige box), a good number of Apple Motorola computers, one exemplar of almost all PowerPC Apple computers, and, at last, a good number of Apple Intel based computers. I am working to have a full set of Medias (and manuals) for each computer.

I have a shared folder setup to exchange images @ https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0ByhVBLo68lMoR1JncUJFZTdTbWc

Maybe you can upload a list of your images and then I can point which ones I want?

semvalidade2006 I have a fairly large media collection myself, problem is due to physical space in my small home it exists solely as .toast images in a naming convention that is more suited to me..I'm willing to share and have put quite a a few titles on Macintosh Garden...that being said I want to try to step up some contributions...is there anything you are acutely looking for...I may not have it but oddly enough I might. I have build a quite hefty collection.

If, by any chance, you have any Apple media (FD/CD/DVD/Tape) laying around, can you upload an image into https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0ByhVBLo68lMoR1JncUJFZTdTbWc? The fie name should follow my name convention: PN,Lang,Name (media-type). I am always after new apple software media to improve my collection.

Did not totally read instructions ... you asked for where to upload ... i'm guessing you can't put all of them here ... that would be my first choice . Second choice would be Max's server:

http://max1zzz.co.uk

Third choice would be a private Dropbox I guess. I'm open to any thoughts the guy willing to share wants to put them.

I am going to make my requests knowing that I'm probably not going to get them all and know that I'm not "entitled" to any...that being said, if you don't make a request, you have zero hope of getting anything. I will preface by offering a thank you in advance and that this list is in order of priority for me.

"Getting started with Mac OS X 10.2" could be of interest."

I can do that. Should I upload it into the existing "Mac OS X (PPC)" page?

I think it can be uploaded to a separate page.
The file would be lost between all the files of the "Mac OS X (PPC)" page.

I am more than happy to keep this list up-to-date. Mostly because this is how I track what medias I already have. However, in regards other pages on this web-site, p track of it I would need to receive/have access to the correct media (FD, CD, or DVD) Part Number (P/N). Personally, I keep a file which cross reference the medias with an Apple full product, which can be composed of one or medias.

Most Apple oem's that I own have multiple "part numbers" on them, so which ones are we using? There's the number written on the disc face label, I assume that the ones we're addressing. But in the comments of root File Info are very different part numbers, why has Apple done that?

I don't get it? In a software page, the "1 star" rating by your name means you voted 1 star for this page, which is why at the top of the page there have been 1 votes and the total rating is 1. Your vote is displayed next to your name for every comment on this page, same way that your avatar picture is.
