The screenshot is taken from Museum Victoria, Australia. They state that "This package contains Adobe Illustrator 1.0 user's manual, two 3.5 inch floppy disks (Disk 1, Program and Disk 2, Tutorial) and a video training tape ('Meet Adobe Illustrator'). The manual is for version 1.0; the Program disk is for version 1.1" Unfortunately, the download here consists of only the application. It is in a custom DiskCopy 4.2 image (i.e. it is not an image of the Program Disk) compressed with StuffIt 4. Although the application here has a creation date of 1987, it has a modification date of 2012. My reading of forum comments indicates that the original, pristine application asks for the master disk. The modified copy here makes no such request.

Illustrator helped the Macintosh cement its place as the computer of choice for the graphics industry by complementing the already unique painting and drawing tools MacPaint and MacDraw. This heralded the beginning of a movement away from drawing on paper to drawing on the computer (from the Museum Victoria summary)

I happen to have an original floppy here, and the most likely reason for the modified program disk is that the master is copy protected. While copying the app to the hard drive works great, a proper image with DiskCopy 4.2 is impossible, so it will probably have to be imaged with another tool such as DiskDup+ (which my machine does not have installed yet)... or through use with a KryoFlux

The program disk contains only one file, and that is the Illustrator executable, which if "installed" will not start without the master disk present.

Thanks, slomacuser. Would you be able to upload the video file here? Also do you have a copy of the original program disk? If so, would you please upload an image of it here? The one on this page is only a custom image.

I have Mac OS 3.2 Running in Mini vMac (Yep System 3!) And this program (Illustrator 1.1) Works great! Thanx for the upload, it's really cool seeing the first version running in Mini vMac on such an old OS. I've been using Illustrator for years, great program!
