This will allow you to play DivX and Xvid movies on Mac OS 8.6 and later, it has been taken out of its homepage, now you can only find the OS X version.
Top DL is the PR2 version for OS 9
2nd DL is the 4.5.1 version for OS 9
3rd DL is the D4 4.0.4 version for OS 9 and OS X
4th DL is the D3.5 version for OS X
See also DiVA, a high-speed video encoder, also from 3ivx, that needs the D4 4.5 3ivx video plug-in for OS X 10.2 and higher, which is no longer available online. 3ivxCrush was their next-generation encoder for PPC, optimized for G5 Macs.
Comments
The original upload is sitx-compressed. I've added a new link with 3ivx D4 4.5.1 taken from the original download page at archive.org.
3ivx is actually really useful because it creates standard MPEG-4 output. That is, at least ver. d4_451 does which is what I have. I'm not sure about this version--you'll have to try it.
What this means is that you can *export* using 3ivx, which is faster and better quality (per kilobyte) than QuickTime 6's built-in MPG4 codec, then playback using QT. Playing back *using 3ivx* leads to crashes (again, that's with d4_451). Of course, this may mean restarting with 3ivx removed from the extensions folder for playback, which isn't a big deal if you've exported a 60 min video....
